Talking Lake Spanish Academy is the confluence of many streams of ideas, visions, and dreams of the lead teacher and owner Patricia Cespedes-Schueller. "Talking Lake" is derived from the French language, "Lac Qui Parle", which in English means "Lake that speaks", which in turn the French translated from the native Dakota peoples who originally occupied the area around Lake Qui Parle Lake in south-western Minnesota. For the Dakota, the lake spoke to them in the sound of the waves crashing into the shore and in the plethora of wildlife sounds emanating from the lake. This area is the birthplace of Patricia's husband David. Patricia, on the other hand, is from the World Heritage city of Cusco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in Peru, South America. When Patricia and David moved to Minnesota in 2003, the idea of teaching Spanish in the context of various cultural and artistic traditions inspired by the "Talking Lakes" of Minnesota began to converge and in 2020 the uniquely "PeruviSotan" Talking Lake Spanish Academy was born.
Although Talking Lake Spanish Academy classes, lessons and tutoring are currently in Minnetonka, Minnesota, a short walk from Lake Minnetonka, someday the Cespedes-Schueller family hopes to bridge the urban and rural divide and expand the Spanish Academy back to the original "Talking Lake" in south-western Minnesota. Until that day the Cespedes-Schueller family wishes all families, whether they be urban or rural, the love of learning, languages, and listening to what the lakes are telling us.
